VIDEO: Cornyn joins Fox News on Sunday on immigration, Ukraine and the midterm elections

If you take out Title 42, Border Patrol tells me they’re going to lose control, and the people who will benefit the most are the drug cartels.

“Ukrainians are fighting for their own lives, and I would give them everything they need faster than we are doing right now.”

“I wouldn’t trust Vladimir Putin any more than I could throw him away.”

Today on Fox News Sunday, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) joined Martha MacCallum to discuss the Biden administration’s decision to end Title 42, Putin’s war with Ukraine and the upcoming midterm elections. Excerpts from Senator Cornyn’s remarks are below, and a video can be found here.

On President Biden eliminating Title 42:

“You and I are still required – when we fly or take public transportation – to wear masks because that’s what the Transportation Security Administration has ordered. I heard the congresswoman say we have to follow science, but frankly, it’s contradictory, the messages we get from the administration.

“And, really, the point here is, if you take out Title 42, that’s the last tool Border Patrol has to try to maintain some semblance of order on the border. And if you take out Title 42, Border Patrol tells me they’re going to lose control, and the people who will benefit the most are the drug cartels.

“We need to enforce our existing immigration laws and do so aggressively, but the Biden administration shows no interest in doing so.”

On the Russian invasion of Ukraine and Vladimir Putin:

“I’m all for giving Ukrainians everything they can use and as fast as possible. That’s the message we got from President Zelensky time and time again, and that’s the message we got when I visited Poland and Germany with a bipartisan group of senators a few weeks ago.

“We can’t dither and worry about some niceties here while the Ukrainians are fighting for their own lives, and if they feel they need to remove a fuel depot across the Russian border, go- y.”

“Ukrainians are fighting for their own lives, and I would give them everything they need faster than we are doing right now.”

“I wouldn’t trust Vladimir Putin any more than I could throw him away. I think that’s really the answer, because Putin is a killer. He’s a thug. His vision is to restore the Russian Empire, whose fall was, according to him, the greatest geopolitical tragedy of the last hundred years. So I wouldn’t trust Vladimir Putin for a minute.

On the midterm elections:

“I think we know what the issues are right now. We know that inflation undermines the standard of living of Americans across the country, including those on fixed incomes and at the bottom of the income scale.

“We know that violent crime has increased because of the disrespect the far left has shown police, including this ‘Defund the Police’ movement, which has undermined morale and made it harder for police to do his work.”

“And we know the border is on fire, and of course now we have an invasion of Ukraine by Vladimir Putin. I think we have to be careful of a lot of things. And, for me, those would be the questions that would guide our program when we return to majority.
